Day 3,
Leaving St. Louis to head to KS. Archway to the West. Westward HO!!!! Everyone knows how much I love gray cloudy days. That is my cup of tea. Perfect day for driving. However, thank goodness I wasn’t driving. The heavens opened and the rains came. Driving through Kansas City, KS was a task. I am thankful for my dear husband who was driving through.
Salina, KS. What can I say. That was an interesting city. Not bad, just sad. The hotel was nice and clean. Braums was next door and Western Sizzlin was just a short walk down the road. When we arrived at the restaurant, I believe we were over dressed in our casual driving clothes. The locals obviously realized we did not belong there because of all the eyes on us. Sitting in the Western Sizzlin I was struck by this sadness emitted from the locals. Behind the restaurant was a run down trailer park, as well as houses. I sat eating and praying for the folks of Salina, KS. Amidst this beauty of corn, wheat and soybeans, there was this underlying sadness. The land was so beautiful, you can see forever and a day. The clouds seem to go on forever and the wind blows through the fields with a grace indescribable . Again, God’s glory hit me with an awe feeling the cool breeze and seeing the fields blow. We finished eating and proceeded to Braums introducing the children to this WONDERFUL ice cream. Braums’ Jr. scoop is equivalent to a single at 31 flavours. We told the children about when we lived in Oklahoma and loved to eat Braums ice cream this brought back memories of first being married, living in OK and being young. Then back to the hotel to swim, relax in the Jacuzzi and get the energy out of the children. A good day of driving. Braum's ice cream.. what a great way to end a day. Everyone slept like babies. On to Colorado Springs, CO
With love,
Angela
